Welcome to our little slice of the world. It’s great that you’re here and we hope that you’ll stick around, take a look at some of our items, and let us know what you think.

Some of you might be here because you know us. Welcome. There aren’t really introductions neccessary in this case, but we’re stoked for your support and appreciate you.

More of you are probably here because you came across us on social media, found our website whilst searching for baby or toddler clothes, or someone brought you a gift card that you’re trying to redeem. And to you folk we offer a super welcome, and introductions are definitely neccessary!

Tots & Togs is a family-run company and is the dream and creation of the Ohata Family. We’re a family of 4 – Shunsuke, Peta, Luca and Ko – and we live in the north of Japan on the island of Hokkaido. We LOVE this part of the world, and our other business is running Travel Hokkaido, a tour agency that supports adventure and family travelers coming to north Japan. Shunsuke (who everyone calls Ochan) is Japanese, Peta is from the UK, and Luca (2 years) and Ko (3 months) are our two little bilingual adventurers. As a family, we’re on our own journey of living more mindfully, creating less waste, and trying to care about people and the planet in a deeper way.

Tots & Togs is something we’ve wanted to start for a while – sourcing and designing neccessary items (rather than ‘stuff’ for the sake of having more ‘stuff’) for babies and toddlers, that are created ethically and support positive family adventures.

5 Facts About Us

1. We met in 2014 when Ochan was opening a hostel for backpackers in Sapporo. A mutual friend introduced us so that Peta could help with some painting in the guesthouse, and the rest is history.
2. Ochan handmade Peta’s engagement ring by taking secret lessons with a local jeweler.
3. We got married in April 2017 and our reception took place in an outdoor BBQ house and giant hand built marquee, despite the fact there was still quite a bit of snow on the ground. Our reception included a rap battle, a flare bar and an epic dance off.
4.  We love nature and getting out of the city is our default when it comes to needing to refresh and reset. We are always game for a camp, some mountains or a beach!
5.  Ochan is an amazing cook and ALWAYS makes enough food for a small army. So if you’re ever in Sapporo our kitchen is full, our kettle is on and you are welcome!
